A move intended to earn stability and savings suddenly became “a frightening and stressful time for ourselves, our employees, and our families,” Laurie says. However, the pandemic turned what was supposed to be a smooth transition into a traumatic six-month closure before the couple could debut their restaurant’s next incarnation, LP on Main. Luckily for Patrick and Laurie Bagbey, chef-owners of Banner Elk landmark Louisiana Purchase, their new building on Main Street is only a few blocks from the restaurant’s home of almost four decades. Lucky to have this place in NC.When a restaurant long associated with a particular place makes a move, it’s big news. We will plan a trip to go back to Banner Elk just to go and enjoy this experience again. Everyone was friendly and clearly bought in to the high service standards they seek to implement. You don't need to feel obligated to wear a jacket. Wonderful evening with wonderful service and food. ![]() The servers quickly set it up and we finished our experience by the fire overlooking the mountain stream. Afterwards, we wanted to finish our wine by the fireplace that anchors one end of the deck. My wife enjoyed the halibut, while the rest of us took advantage of a couple of the steak specials that night. All excellent, and we've been spoiled by fresh calamari in Kauai, this was the best I've ever had on the mainland. We all sampled blue crab beignets, sashimi, and calamari. The sommelier was friendly, NOT pretentious, and assisted us with selections. I've read about the cellar, but haven't seen it. I would suggest this is where you want to sit unless the weather is severe, their setup will allow you to enjoy the scenery at a comfortable temp. You look out over a stream where you can hear the water flowing past the trees. We sat on the back deck (it is covered completely, there are heaters running the length of the deck above the tables). I've been to Ritz-Carlton Leadership Training and the way Anita handled this was impressive and while you may think it trivial and irrelevant, I think it highlights a service philosophy that ensures all the servers, the food, everything exceeds your expectations. Anita when on to arrange a car service and even mentioned that she would personally take us home if the car service was unavailable. That's when I knew our entire evening would be spectacular. Her response was one of the strongest service responses I've ever received: First, let me assure you that you will arrive home safely tonight. Our entire party was enthusiastic about the wine list, so I asked the manager, Anita, what options were available for car service to take us all home. Bar and cozy lounge area was inviting and we quickly felt like our entire evening was going to be special. We did arrive 5 minutes early, so the hostess invited us to have a drink before we were seated. Beautiful setting, manicured pastureland and contemporary, yet rustic building where you are greeted by valet. Driving up to the property, you feel like you are in a luxury car commercial. First off, this is an experience and worth planning your trip around it.
